Our vermeil is 2.5 microns of 18k gold over 92.5 sterling. The Indian standard asks for 0.5 microns, so ours lasts roughly five times longer before the silver shows.
The four rules
Last on, first off. No perfume or attar on the metal. No chlorine. Wipe with the cloth after wearing — skin acidity varies enormously between people, and that, more than anything, decides how long a plating lasts.
When it does eventually wear through, send it back. Re-plating costs less than you think.
